University Library

Collaboration with the University Library, which is the third largest academic library in the country, takes many forms: Library faculty teach courses at GSLIS; members of both faculties work together on several different research initiatives, and the Library employs a number of GSLIS students in assistantship and hourly positions.

Mortenson Center for International Library Programs

Established in 1991, the Mortenson Center for International Library Programs exists to strengthen international ties among research libraries and librarians in order to facilitate access to the collected knowledge of the world regardless of geographic location or access to technology. Programs offered by the Center provide opportunities for librarians and those engaged in library-related activities to come to the University of Illinois for short visits of for extended stays of several months to a year. Since 1988, 130 librarians from 50 countries have participated in the Center's programs.

National Center for Supercomputing Applications

The National Center for Supercomputing Applications opened its doors in January 1986. NCSA earned and maintains an international reputation in high-performance computing, networking, storage, and data mining. It is the recognized leader in developing innovative systems and software for science and engineering. NCSA's overriding mission is to partner with diverse research communities to create the cyberinfrastructure that makes possible new scientific discoveries. Its specialty is shaping the most cutting-edge computer into working systems complete with software applications and tools for visualization, data mining and analysis, and collaboration. These innovative systems are the heart of an emerging cyberinfrastructure that links disparate systems into a single, seamless resource.

Corporate Roundtable

Established in 2004, the GSLIS Corporate Roundtable (CRT) partners academia and private industry to find new ways to work together. Information technology (IT) has become a ubiquitous, indispensable component of research, information management, and decision making. GSLIS, a national leader in library and information science research and education, has developed an integrative approach to the study of knowledge creation and decision support systems. The synergy between humans and computers provides opportunities for cross-disciplinary interaction both on our campus and around the world.

Research Fellows

Each year, GSLIS faculty appoint Research Fellows for two-year terms. Fellows are chosen because their work is relevant to the interests of GSLIS faculty and students, and each will give at least one lecture during their appointment.
