GSLIS Student Award RecipientsJane B. and Robert B. Downs Professional Promise AwardPresented to Janet Pye by Dr. Betsy Hearne and Dr. Christine Jenkins at Convocation on May 15, 2005 Janet Pye epitomizes the professional promise represented by the Jane B. and Robert B. Downs Award. Her meticulous course work provided a springboard from which to share her extensive knowledge with the broader public, as demonstrated by her web site on “Books for Military Children.” Jan's LEEP career was distinguished by congenial work with peers and exceptionally insightful commentary on electronic bulletin boards. During her time at GSLIS, in addition to her regular course work she also produced a full length manuscript for a young adult novel and has just had an article for children accepted by The New Zealand School Journal. Jan's work has consistently crossed geographical boundaries physically, and cultural boundaries intellectually. We have no doubt that wherever she works--New Zealand, Canada, North Dakota, and now Texas--her future work will continue to fulfill the professional promise of innovative librarianship.
