4. ALUMNI AND ADVANCEMENT HIGHLIGHTS

GSLIS Alumni We Need Your Help!

At GSLIS we would like to see an increased number of students in both our on-campus and LEEP programs. Our alumni are our best recruiters. If you have friends, co-workers or acquaintances who could benefit from a GSLIS degree to pursue their career goals, be sure to direct them to our Admissions information.

If you are an alum working in a special library or non-traditional position, we would like to learn more about your experiences in seeking non-traditional employment and advancing your career. This information will assist in highlighting for current and potential students the range of career paths open to someone with a MS degree from GSLIS. If you have information that you think would be helpful to our work please send it to Diana Stroud.

2014 ASB Seeking Hosts/Projects

Hosts are being sought for the 2014 GSLIS Alternative Spring Break (ASB) program March 24-28. Every year more than 50 students take advantage of this experiential learning program which offers the opportunity to visit organizations, shadow LIS professionals, and work on small projects.

In an effort to better align hosts with student interests, Roy Brooks, GSLIS Career Specialist/Practicum Coordinator, invites prospective hosts to contact him with project ideas by October 4, 2013. Contacts after this date will be accepted, but consideration by students is not guaranteed. Matching of students to hosts will begin in mid-October. Please contact Roy to express interest or ask questions about the ASB program.

Support from LSAA and the Annual Fund provides up to $300 per student to subsidize travel and lodging costs associated with ASB. Click LIS Annual Fund, and designate "ASB" to sponsor a student.

Impact of Donor Support

Alumni impact the lives of GSLIS students daily. Whether support is directed to the LIS Annual Fund, named scholarship/fellowship funds, awards, or special use, your generosity makes a difference to more than 700 students. Below you will read a few statements of appreciation shared by students who were the recipients of your support this year.

"... you have lightened my financial burden, which allows me to focus more on one of the most significant aspects of learning... student teaching."

"Please know your gift not only helps, but enables me to learn and contribute to the field of library and information science..."

"It is with support like this that students such as myself are able to continue our studies, support our field and advance our communities."
