What is the GSLIS Annual Fund?
The GSLIS Annual Fund is used to support activities and programs benefitting students and faculty during the academic year, especially initiatives that are new and innovative. Gifts to this fund come from alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends of GSLIS who wish to send a message—as well as money—in support of the education available at GSLIS.
I am a recent graduate and don't have a lot of money to spare. How can I support GSLIS?
Gift size is a decision each donor makes. Making a gift, no matter how small or large, sends a message of support to GSLIS. Currently GSLIS has one of the highest percentages on campus of alumni who give—almost 20%. Although our funds raised don't begin to match those raised by other colleges and programs who may have higher paid alumni, this percentage number is a powerful testament to our alumni's appreciation and support!
What is a deferred gift?
A deferred gift means the money will come to GSLIS at a later time. The most popular vehicle is a bequest made in a will or estate plan. For more information on taking this step—and it is a very simple one when writing your will—contact the Office of Advancement.
Please also let the Office of Advancement know when you have a bequest to GSLIS in your will so you can join other alumni and friends as a member of the Legacy Society.
Where is my support most needed?
Many donors place no restrictions on their gifts, which gives the Dean the ability to use these gifts for programs GSLIS is currently targeting. There are always needs with us -- fellowships and named professorships—and other needs that spring from opportunities to add value to the program.
Others prefer to designate their gifts to a project or activity that interests them or one where they have received benefit as a student.
Please read the fund profiles to see which are currently accepting gifts. If any of these interest you, please direct your gift there.
You can also talk with Office of Advancement staff if you have a particular area of interest and don't see it listed on the fund profiles list.
