Resources for Instructors

Our primary resource for instructors is our Instructor Guide, which contains information on Moodle, file storage, streaming media, and more. We will provide information on additional GSLIS-supported resources as they are added.

Campus-wide Resources

A number of technological and pedagogical resources are available for instructors at the higher campus level. The following are places to go for more information on teaching tools, training sessions, and other options for development.

Administrative Support

  • DRES
DRES provides services and support for individuals with disabilities.  Their services are summarized in the Disability Resource Guide
  • Enterprise (Banner)
  • Banner provides access to registration (for students), rosters (for instructors), and final grades.
  • ICES Online
  • ICES Online is a pilot web-based evaluation system.
  • FERPA
  • The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act governs the disclosure of private student information.  Anyone who has access to student data is required to complete FERPA training.
  • Graduate College
  • The Graduate College provides policy resources for faculty and staff, as well as professional development for students.  Key policies, including academic integrity, are summarized in the Graduate College Handbook.

Computing Resources

  • CITES, the larger technology services department at UIUC, supports a variety of instructional resources in addition to managing campus-wide accounts and passwords.
  • Security resources and training are provided by CITES.
  • CITES Express Mail provides email accounts for all members of UIUC.
  • Additional file storage is available through Netfiles, also supported by CITES.  Your Netfiles account must be set up, and expires after you leave UIUC (30 days for staff, 3 months for graduating students).

Library Resources

  • LIS Virtual Library
  • GSLIS has a close relationship with the LIS Virtual Library. The LIS librarians have an office at GSLIS, room 244. They can also be reached via email at lislib@library.illinois.edu or by phone at 217-333-4456 or 217-333-3804.
  • E-Reserves
  • E-reserves allow your students to access assigned course readings from outside the library. Your students will access E-Reserves from a campus-wide listing. The Library's Reserve Services Web page includes current turnaround time for processing for each of three formats (print, electronic and media), along with other pertinent information regarding reserves.
  • Instructional Services for Faculty and TAs
  • The Main Library provides a number of services for new and experienced faculty members
