LIS451AL1 Intro to Network Systems [lecture section]


Description: Hands-on introduction to technology systems for use in information environments. The course steps students through choosing, installing, and managing computer hardware and operating systems, as well as networking hardware and software. Students will have an opportunity to design and create a working network environment as part of the course work. Mid-semester and end of semester field trips required. Details in syllabus. An additional class materials fee is assessed to the student's bill (non-waived). [A recommended course for the Community Informatics specialization.]
Credit Hours: 4 hours [UG and GR]
Note: All students must enroll in this lecture section (AL1) and the lab section [(AB1 (34297)] to complete registration in this course. Non-LIS graduate students and undergraduates (juniors or seniors) must have permission of instructor to enroll (mwolske@uiuc.edu). The the class will meet on campus May 12-23 with possible additional lecture and lab sessions as announced by the instructor. Required travel for the East St. Louis Action Research Project to be scheduled during the second two weeks (May 26-June 6). Students will coordinate with the instructor regarding their project time in East St. Louis. Contact the instructor with questions or for further details about this course (mwolske@uiuc.edu). A $25 non-waived fee for class materials will be added to the student's tuition and fees bill.
