Weech Named Chair of IFLA Section

Terry Weech, an associate professor in the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, was elected chair of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) Section on Library Theory and Research. Weech's new position was announced at the World Library and Information Congress: 75th IFLA General Conference and Assembly held in Milan, Italy, in August, 2009.

Weech has served as a member of the Section's Standing Committee, which functions as an executive committee, since 2007. He will preside as chair of the Section at the 76th IFLA General Conference and Assembly in Gothenburg, Sweden, in August of 2010. The theme of the 2010 conference is Open Access to Knowledge Promoting Sustainable Progress.

IFLA is the leading international body representing the interests of library and information services and their users and is the global voice of the library and information profession. The organization has 1,600 members in 150 countries around the world and is headquartered in The Royal Library, the national library of the Netherlands, in The Hague.

Weech is also the North American Editor for the IFLA Education and Training Section's Bulletin, which publishes news and articles about library and information science education.
