Linda Musser (MS '85)March 2, 2009 Penn State Honors GSLIS Alumna Linda Musser, head of Penn State University's Earth and Mineral Sciences Library, was recently named Distinguished Librarian by Penn State. Musser was one of two librarians from a total of fourteen faculty members who received the honor, which recognizes exceptional research, creativity, and service. Musser is a nationally recognized engineering and geosciences librarian, and recipient of the 2006 Homer I. Bernhardt Distinguished Service Award by the ASEE Engineering Libraries Division. She is also a prolific author and speaker. Musser has held the highest leadership positions within the American Society for Engineering Education, the Atmospheric Science Librarians International, and the Geoscience Information Society, and was a member of the select committee that authored the National Science Foundation's publication, "Geoscience Collections and Data: National Resources in Peril." Karen Schmidt (PhD '89), Wendy Allen Shelburne (MS '00), and David Vess (MS '06)February 24, 2009 Schmidt, Shelburne and Vess Article Wins Best of LRTS Award Three alumni have been awarded the 2009 Best of LRTS Award for the article, "Approaches to Selection, Access, and Collection Development in the Web world," published in Library Resources & Technical Services. Lisa Powell Williams (MS '91)February 16, 2009 Moline Public Library wins 2009 Scholastic Library Publishing National Library Week Grant Lisa Powell Williams (MS '91) is the adult services coordinator at the Moline (IL) Public Library, which was honored for the best public awareness campaign in support of National Library Week (April 12-18, 2009). Lynne M. Rudasill (MS '91)February 10, 2009 Lynne M. Rudasill named 2009 Marta Lange/CQ Press Award Winner This award honors an academic or law librarian who has made distinguished contributions to bibliography and information service in law or political science. Kwasi Sarkodie-Mensah (PhD '88)October 16, 2008 Brightening Lives with Laptops For the last six years, Kwasi Sarkodie-Mensah (PhD '88) has led service trips to his hometown of Ejisu, Ghana, bringing laptop computers with him for students there. This year the laptops will become solar powered.
