Support the Graduate Employees OrganizationThe Graduate Employees Organization (GEO) at the University of Illinois is the union that represents all graduate employees of the University.Read their Statement of Mission and Goals. What You Can DoMany GSLIS students have pre-professional graduate assistantships, and are therefore not members of the bargaining unit. However, PPGAs are encouraged to become members of the GEO.Why?Joining the GEO, whether a member of the bargaining unit or not, benefits all graduate employees. Greater membership means a broader coalition of support and more money for union activities. Keep in mind that whatever gains are won by GEO on behalf of some graduate employees will generally be extended to all graduate employees.Do Unions and Librarians Go Together? For further background and news on unions and librarianship, check out Kathleen de la Peña McCook's blog, Union Librarian. For more information about the GEO, contact: -geo, at shout.net-
