Security Update

"Heartbleed" Vulnerability and GSLIS Password Changes

In response to the recent "Heartbleed" security vulnerability, GSLIS is implementing a mandatory password change for all active accounts. You must change your GSLIS password now, or your account will be locked. Also, our systems will start tracking password history and it will no longer be possible to reuse a password you previously used. We will lock any accounts on April 30 where the password has not been changed since April 13, 2014.

If you are an alumni, or have a guest account, you will need to use our "non-AD" password change form:

To come into compliance with campus policies, we will also start expiring passwords annually. You will receive an email when your password will soon expire. You may change your password as often as you like, and each time you change your password, the one year time limit resets. You may not, however, reuse any previous GSLIS passwords. You may choose to change your GSLIS password at the same time you change your other University of Illinois passwords.

Additional Recommendations:

We recommend using a different password for each site, such as one for each bank website, one for each social media site, one for Google, and a separate one for University of Illinois. We know all these passwords can be difficult to remember. You may want to try using a password manager program, as recommended by CITES security.
