Hinchliffe elected co-secretary general of the UNESCO-GAPMIL program

Affiliate Professor Lisa Janicke Hinchliffe, professor and coordinator for information literacy services in the University Library, has been elected as the co-secretary general of the International Steering Committee (ISC) for the UNESCO Global Alliance on Partnerships for Media and Information Literacy (GAPMIL). GAPMIL is a groundbreaking effort to promote international cooperation to ensure that all citizens have access to media and information competencies. In consultation with the international agencies, the ISC coordinates the overall implementation of GAPMIL activities.

For the past two years, Hinchliffe has been serving as chair of the Communication and Organization Development committee of the GAPMIL North American SubChapter while also managing the website. Additionally, she completed her term as chair of IFLA's Information Literacy Section. At this new position in GAPMIL, Hinchliffe will have the opportunity to continue to contribute to the international information literacy community.

Hinchliffe is looking forward to the work she'll continue as co-secretary general, "I am honored to serve with so many distinguished colleagues on the GAPMIL International Steering Committee. Media and information literacy is of critical importance in today's global society. Supporting the growing community of practice working on these important topics is a great opportunity to contribute to the profession."

Spectrum Scholar Spotlight: Alyssa Brown

Seventeen iSchool master's students have been named 2023-2024 Spectrum Scholars by the American Library Association (ALA) Office for Diversity, Literacy, and Outreach Services. This "Spectrum Scholar Spotlight" series highlights the School's scholars. MSLIS student Alyssa Brown earned her BA in environmental studies from Middlebury College.
