iSchool participation in iConference 2020

The following iSchool faculty, staff, and students will participate in iConference 2020, which will be held virtually on March 23-27. The annual event brings together scholars, researchers, and information professionals to share insights on critical information issues. The theme of this year's conference is "Sustainable Digital Communities."

Tuesday, March 24

Assistant Professor Peter Darch and Live Kvale (Oslo Metropolitan University) will present their poster, "Dealing with Privacy – Personal Privacy from a Research Data Management Perspective," at 10:00 a.m.

PhD student Yingying Han will present the poster, "How Open Data Movement Drives Digital Scholarship Services in Chinese University Libraries? An Environmental Scanning," with Tong Lai and Lihong Zhou (Wuhan University) at 10:00 a.m.

PhD student Yuerong Hu, Assistant Professor Melissa Ocepek, Professor J. Stephen Downie, and Lecia Barker (University of Colorado Boulder) will present their poster, "The Real Library World is Dirty and You Don’t Learn That at All in Schools," at 10:00 a.m.

MS student Jasmine Wong and Digital Humanities Specialist Ryan Dubnicek will present their poster, "Piloting a Workflow for Extracting Author Citations from Samuel Johnson’s Dictionary of the English Language," at 10:00 a.m.

Friday, March 27

Professor Michael Twidale and Preben Hansen (Stockholm University) will present their paper, "Agile Research: Sharing Techniques and Experiences," at 5:30 p.m.

Assistant Professor Melissa Ocepek, Postdoctoral Research Associate Alaine Martaus, Gary Burnett (Florida State University), Pam McKenzie (University of Western Ontario), and Yazdan Mansourian (Charles Sturt University) will present their paper, "Just Having Fun: What Studying Fun in LIS Can Tell Us about Engaging Communities," at 8:30 p.m.

Seventeen iSchool master's students have been named 2023-2024 Spectrum Scholars by the American Library Association (ALA) Office for Diversity, Literacy, and Outreach Services. This "Spectrum Scholar Spotlight" series highlights the School's scholars. MSLIS student Alyssa Brown earned her BA in environmental studies from Middlebury College.

iSchool researchers to present at CHI 2024

iSchool faculty and students will present their research at the ACM Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems (CHI 2024), which will be held from May 11-16 in Honolulu, Hawaii. The conference, considered the most prestigious in the field of Human-Computer Interaction, attracts researchers and practitioners from around the globe. The theme for CHI 2024 is "Surfing the World."

Senior Spotlight: Adaeze Asonye

BSIS student Adaeze Asonye, who hails from the Near West Side of Chicago, discovered her interest in user interface (UI)/user experience (UX) before her freshman year. She looked for programs that would help her prepare for a career in this area and discovered the iSchool.
